“SLEEP-OVER HORSE CAMP”

Fancy Fox Farm sponsors weekly horse-centered overnight camps for children ages 9-16.  The camp is located on Crestwood, a private 110-acre estate with miles of wide trails through field and forest.  The family style camp, coupled with the limited enrollment of 12 campers per week, ensures individual attention.  Campers will form bonds with our fit and friendly horses and learn in a fun, safe, hands-on environment.

Saddle time combines lessons with trail rides and games on horseback according to skill level.  Our small size allows us to focus on the individual needs of each camper.  Fancy Fox Farm offers a variety of training aids in field and formal environments to accommodate a wide range of skill levels, including a 300’ X 150’ show/jump ring, 15 show jumps, 40m dressage ring, and “The Gauntlet,” our cross-country course featuring 5-miles of wooded and open trails with 35 jumps (by-passes for non-jumpers).  The children will stay in a modern, spacious 2-story camp cottage will all amenities.  We also have an extensive library for campers who desire some quiet time.

In order to ride, campers must bring & wear a riding helmet and riding shoes or boots with ¼” heels (NO sneakers or hiking boots!)—protective vest is encouraged.  Campers are welcome to bring their own horse and tack!—Call for information.

We play some great games like soccer on horseback, in which even the counselors participate!  We also provide a wide variety of games and activities while the campers are not on horseback, such as:  Swimming, Scavenger Hunts, Hike with Goats, Talent Show, Moonlight Walk, Campfire Singing, Round Pen Demonstrations, Board Games, Night Swim, Dodge Ball, Penny Toss, Campfire Spooky Tales, Manicure Night, Video Tape Review of Riders, Fishing, Making Ice Cream Sundaes, Whiffle Golf, Dancing, Movie Night, Camping Out, Hiking and more!  The campers choose the activities.  New this year—lazy river rafting and Irish dance night!

The children are fed home cooked meals and receive a well balanced diet, including the vegetables they pick from the Fancy Fox Farm garden.

The Horses

Most of our horses have lived with us for 6 years.  They are well fed, child friendly, handled on a daily basis and beautiful.  The camp director rides and attends various clinics with them throughout the year, including Old Peoples Riding Club, Dressage, Eventing, Natural Horsemanship, Jumping, Judged Trail Rides, Obstacle Courses and even Team Penning!  We have 14 horses of various breeds; Paint, Quarter Horse, Welsh, Thoroughbred, Arabian, etc. sized from 12-2 to 16-1 hands.  They enjoy treats, are all polite and love being groomed and fussed over.  This summer, campers will be able to watch our 2 year olds’ initial round-penning.
